Take A Plant, Leaf A Plant

If you know us, you know that we are so excited by the idea of plants helping to create community. We had big plans to host a farm and garden swap back in April 2020, but we all know how that played out. So when we learned about what has become a growing phenomenon, we were delighted. Essentially folks have been hosting a giant dispersed plant and seed swap all over the region. It's a decentralized, DIY movement created by people that love plants and love sharing. We're also a fan of the punny title.

So how's it work? Well, just like the title may imply, visit one of the existing plant swap locations and then you take a plant and leave a plant. If you have a few extra plants to share, then feel free to leave them to help the plant swap grow. Check out the map below for locations. We are doing our best to keep it up to date!

Do you want to start your own? Do it! You don't need permission from any Take A Plant, Leaf A Plant council and there are no forms to fill out! To make your own plant and seed swap station you just need a few materials and some enthusiasm.

Your swap station should have:
- A sign to explain to neighbors and passersby that it is a plant swap, not just a plant giveaway. We love the punniness of "Take A Plant, Leaf A Plant" but pick language that suits you.
- A stand for plants to share and some space for folks to drop off what they'd like to contribute.

That's it! Really. It can be as simple or complex as you'd like. It's your stand and you can create whatever you'd like.

Once it is up and running, let us know and we'll add you to the map!
